Trachoma has been identified as a public health problem in Chad since the 1970’s. Surveys in 1972, 1985 and more recently 2000-2004 were conducted in 12 of the 22 regions. Chad became a member of the GET 2020 alliance in 2002. In 2015 Chad completed additional mapping with GTMP.
Chad began full SAFE implementation in 2013 with the Mongo district, and expanded to four regions in 2014. SAFE strategy in Chad has been supported by OPC, Sightsavers, LCIF, CBM and DIFD. Chad is on track to eliminate trachoma by 2020.
