Mapping for trachoma in Kenya began in 2004 and all suspected endemic counties (districts) have been surveyed. Of the 47 total counties and sub-counties in the country, eight are confirmed as endemic.
Partners in full SAFE implementation include Sightsavers, the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust (Trust), Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF), CBM, and Operation Eyesight.
In 2015, Kenya hosted the first East Africa Cross Border Meeting in Machakos to improve cross-border collaborations in trachoma elimination in East Africa. Kenya shares a border with four countries known to be endemic for trachoma: Ethiopia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
