ITI is a program of The Task Force for Global Health.
Sixteen districts were mapped in Zimbabwe for trachoma prevalence using the Global Trachoma Mapping Project (GTMP) platform in 2014 and 2015. Out of the 16, four were found to have TF1-9 prevalence between 10-29.9% and 7, between 5-9.9%.
In November 2016, the national program organized a Trachoma Action Plan (TAP) workshop and developed a budget for funding the full SAFE program.
Partners in full SAFE implementation include the END Fund, Sightsavers, the Ministry of Environment, Water & Climate, UNICEF, and ITI.
CURRENT IMPLEMENTATION STATUS
Binga district in Matebeleland North conducted the first trachoma MDA in Zimbabwe in October 2016. In 2017, MDAs will continue in Binga, and three other districts with TF over 10% will start round one of three MDAs required.
The national program would like to map an additional 6 districts that share borders with the endemic districts.
